Can you tell a deer’s age by the antlers?
As you study age-specific body characteristics, you’ll notice there aren’t age-specific antler characteristics (other than the range of antler potential that may be reached at each age class, and this percentage can’t be accurately estimated by viewing the antlers).
What age do Bucks have biggest antlers?
6-1/2 years
What month do whitetail antlers grow the most?
Spurred by hormones and excess nutrition, antlers grow from March through late August. Demarais said antlers can grow about 1/8 inch daily for yearlings and about 1/4 inches daily for adult bucks. That’s as much as 1 inches per week for adults!
Do antlers vary with age?
Antler complexity increases with age until the animal reaches senescence and the size/weight of the antlers is closely correlated with body size. Older males cast their antlers before younger stags and this may be at least partly because it takes longer to grow larger, more complex sets.
